Abstract

Article Summary

Benzimidazole presently is the most pharmaceutically important scaffold. In the present paper, synthesis of a series of new N-substituted benzamidazole derivatives is described. In the first step precursor 5-nitro-1H-benzimidazole was obtained from the condensation of 4- nitro-1, 2-diamino benzene and and ethyl formate in the presence of hydrochloric acid. Reaction of the derivative with various functionalized halides in basic medium led to the N-substituted benzimidazole derivatives. The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy and high resolution mass spectrometry analysis.
